Bumblebee is one of the smallest and physically weakest Autobots around. And while his stature allows him to carry out his job better than many others, he remains somewhat self-conscious about his size.

He looks up to senior Autobots, especially their leader Optimus Prime, and greatly respects them. When Optimus Prime decided to fill out their ranks, Bumblebee was entrusted with the task of taking four new recruits on a tour around the planet. He figured a Brick Springhorn concert would be a great destination, but their main rivals, the evil Decepticons, sabotaged the event to try and harvest energon.

The brave Bumblebee disobeyed orders from his captain to keep away, and led the four new recruits into a brief battle with the Decepticons, saving the concert.

After a seemingly final battle with their enemies, the long-lost Decepticon Shockwave appeared at the last minute to cause mayhem, and succeeded in reversing the Autobot’s near victory with a single blast from his weapon.

Bumblebee and several others were then held captive aboard the Ark, until one of them managed to free the Ark from enemy control, and fixed up all of the injuries they’d sustained.

When the Autobots accidentally crash landed on Earth, one of them named Prowl, led a team into a city to investigate their new surroundings. Bumblebee, who was very anxious and eager to meet the inhabitants of Earth, rear-ended a car full of boisterous teenagers at a drive-in movie theatre.

Before he could properly introduce himself though, he was attacked by Decepticons and suffered great damages in the process.
