Every transformers fan out there is always eager to learn as much as they can about how the popular tv series of the same name, got started. Well, the ‘Transformers’ made its debut appearance on the silver screen in 1984, and was an instant commercial success.

Not only kids, but even adults from around the world were captivated by these amazing creatures that could transform themselves into mighty Autobots within seconds. Amongst these robot-like characters, Optimus Prime (the leader of the Autobots) was a huge fan-favorite.

He is an inspirational leader – kind, yet firm, brave, yet sensible, and above all, has the respect and unwavering support of his fellow comrades. To this day, Optimus Prime is still considered one of the best of the bots by fans of all ages.

Getting back to the tv series – the original version of Transformers lasted for a period of three years, or more specifically, from 1984 to 1987. Next came ‘Generation 1,’ which for some unknown reason, was only broadcast in Japan. This particular series too lasted for three years – from 1987 to 1990.

Subsequently, a popular spin-off of the Japanese version was created in the US. There was a total of 42 episodes when the show finally ended in 1989. Here, Optimus Hero was bestowed a new name, that of Ginrai – the human trucker that could instantly transform into a prime-like transformer.

The next television series was aired in 1993 and was termed ‘Transformers: Generation 2.’ The show only lasted for a couple years – 1993 to 1995. This was not actually called a ’series,’ since it was mainly put out to promote the brand new transformers toy line.

Another tv series ‘Beast Wars: Tranformers’ was broadcast for a period of two years (1996-1998). This version is considered by many to be one of the most popular Transformers tv show.
