Megatron is the founder and much-feared leader of the Decepticons. In the early days, he was young, determined and charismatic, and believed in a grand purpose for his race – after all, it is a Transformer’s dream to oversee an empire that will span the entire universe.
The complete opposite of his enemy Optimus Prime, Megatron treats with contempt other Transformers who, he feels, betray their heritage by opting for peace and cooperation when dealing with much weaker life forms. He will also do anything and everything in his power in order to achieve his goals, but in no way are his grand plans, subtle. This could be due to sheer arrogance on his part.
That said, Megatron’s pride is not so strong as to prevent him from abandoning a losing battle.
Some may question his sanity, although the few who dared to do this, are now dead by his hands…or his Fusion cannon, depending on whatever mood he’s in. At times, he even uses his powerful energon mace to finish them off. It does not matter to him how they die, so long as they’re dead.
His Earth Alternate mode is a modified Walther P38.
Approximately four million years ago, Megatron and his ruthless Decepticons developed the ability to transform themselves, and successfully used this to start a war against the peaceful Autobots. Megatron proclaimed his intention of transforming Cybertron into a ‘cosmic dreadnought’ in order to take over the universe.
Ultimately, all he accomplishes is the building of massive engines deep beneath the surface of the planet.
He also vows to possess the planet’s superdatanase, (known as the ‘Underbase’) for himself, so he stealthily followed Optimus Prime on his journey into the Temple of Knowledge, where he succeeded in destroying the temple’s curator, Boltax. However, to prevent the Underbase from getting into Megatron’s hands, Optimus Prime demolished the temple and quickly launched the Underbase into space.
After the death of Sentinel prime, Megatron’s Decepticons took up positions around the Iacon (the capital city of the Autobots), and steadily got through its defenses. It was during this period that Emirate Xaaron selected Optimus Prime to lead the Autobot forces.
When both sides finally met in battle, Megatron’s army was soundly defeated – with the help of an exploding bridge!
